New Webpage for the CMS Victimized Provider Program
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently posted a new webpage for the Victimized Provider Program (VPP) to assist Medicare providers that have had their identities stolen and used to bill Medicare for services, diagnostic tests, or medical equipment that was never provided or not medically necessary. When a fraudster inappropriately bills Medicare and receives payment using a provider’s stolen identity, the legitimate physician or provider may be held liable for any overpayments. The VPP attempts to validate and remediate the impacted provider’s claims as an identity theft victim.
Please visit the CMS VPP webpage for additional information and resources to protect healthcare providers from identity theft.
